Acai Bowl (Açaí na tigela) is a Brazilian dessert from Pará and Amazonas, it is considered a “superfood”. It is a dish made with the frozen and mashed fruit of the açaí palm (Acai puree) which has berries described as having an “earthy” or creamy taste. The fruit, commonly known as açaí berry or açaí is a small, round, black-purple drupe, the texture is granular before blending and it has a tartness from a high acidity content, making its taste appealing. Acai Bowl is served as a smoothie in a bowl or glass and is commonly topped with granola, and banana slices, then mixed with other fruits, and favorite toppings like seeds nuts, berries, strawberries, guaraná syrup, and yogurt.

Ingredients

  • 1 banana, sliced, frozen
  • ½ cup blueberries, frozen
  • ½ cup blackberries, frozen
  • ½ cup strawberries, frozen
  • ¾ cup milk (any kind)
  • Or ¾ cup apple or grape juice
  • ½ cup plain yogurt (regular or flavored)
  • 200 grams of frozen acai puree, broken into pieces
  • Toppings of your choice: nuts, seeds, fresh fruit, granola, coconut, kiwi, apples, etc…

Directions

  1. Put all the fruits on a tray covered with parchment paper, and freeze completely.
  2. Blend the milk and yogurt first at a high speed. Add the frozen blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, bananas, and acai puree pieces, for about 1 minute.
  3. Blend on low speed until smooth, add any liquid when needed. Taste for sugar, if necessary.
  4. Divide acai and fruits smoothie into bowls and top with the topping of your choice: sliced bananas, fruit nuts, almonds, cashews, grapes, raisins, seeds, granola, kiwi, apple, and berries.
  5. Serve immediately.
